12 Weeks of Prayer Week 10 Day 3

Make Sure What You Hear Lines Up With The Word

By Justin N. Citro

Rooted and built up in him, and established in the faith,

as ye have been taught, abounding therein

with thanksgiving.

Colossians 2:7

As followers of Christ, we must always make sure that whatever preaching or teaching we listen to, whether they are our pastors or those who preach the Word on media, lines up in accordance with the Word of God. In other words, we need to check if the message they have received is from the Lord. All preaching and teaching must line up with what the Bible says and teaches. So many preachers have gone out into this world today and have spoken words that they claim the Lord has told them but then what they say does not happen; this is also twisting the Word of God. Exodus 33:11 is quite clear and tells us that God used Moses to speak for him. This verse shows us and is evidence to us that God still speaks to His people. However, I must ask how can the Lord speak to someone who is twisting the Word of the Lord? If we are meant to be vessels of God that means we carry the Word with us, but how, I ask you, can the Lord use us if we keep misquoting what not only the Bible says but God Himself when he speaks to us? We are to go out and preach the Word of God to the nations, and we must make sure that we ourselves are preaching and teaching in accordance with the Lord. If the Lord trusts you to deliver a warning or a message to a family member or another believer, you want to make sure you are not twisting what that message is. We, as children of the Most High, must be sure we are in right relationship with the Lord so that the Lord can trust us to do the work that He has commanded us to do in these last days. My Brothers and Sisters, I cannot stress this enough: make sure you are read up and know the Scriptures well to make sure that you are not misinterpreting the Word of God. The Word says in Colossians 2:7 KJV, "Rooted and built up in him, and established in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving." Here this verse is explaining the fruit that comes when we are rooted in the Word of God. It builds our faith and secures us in the Body of Christ. This is the type of assurance that reading the Word of God brings us. We cannot be Christians who read the Word of God and twist it to fit our own minds or thinking. We must put on the mind of Christ when we read the scriptures. Brothers and Sisters, my encouragement to you today is this: Read the Word and begin to understand the Word. Let it work through you for it is life changing. Do be careful in who you listen to when it comes to the Word. Make sure you put on the Spirit of discernment and pray for those who take the Word and change it. Heavenly Father, I thank You and praise You. Lord, I pray for those who twist Your Word. Father, please forgive them. Lord, I ask that You give me discernment and knowledge as I read Your Word. Fill me with wisdom that comes from You alone. In Jesus's Name, Amen.
