Genesis 1:1-4
1. In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
2. The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.
3. Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.
4. And God saw that the light was good. Then he separated the light from the darkness.
The story of creation is the story of salvation. It is the story of a time when darkness covered the earth, a time when another dominion was set up, a dominion of rebellion and disobedience, a dominion of destruction and death. The earth was suffering and in bondage under this dominion, but God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit visited the earth and laid out a plan of redemption whereby the light and the life of God would come to the earth once again. Jesus became the vessel that would bring the life and the light of God to the earth. God desired to set up the dominion of light upon the earth. God desired to set up His kingdom upon the earth. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit would redeem the earth and all of creation and restore it back to the state it held before. The only way this would be possible is for the light of God to come in and drive out the darkness. The only way the earth and all of creation could be free is for the dominion of darkness to be destroyed upon the earth and the dominion of light to be set up upon the earth once again. God in His sovereign knowledge and wisdom understood that there was only one power able to redeem the earth. There was nothing in all-time or space, nothing in all of the creation that had the power to redeem the earth and all of creation. Only the glorious, brilliant light of God’s presence and the omnipotent, quickening life-giving power of God Himself could bring restoration. God the Creator spoke, and His Word came forth, and there it was! Glory to God! There was light!
